Resting in the Dark... Emerging in the Light

May 17-18, 2019 at Benet Retreat House - Rock Island, IL

A retreat for those grieving the death of someone in their life, months or years ago.

Often the experience of loss and the grief that follows is described as a darkness... a wondering through the dark. On this retreat we are invited to rest in this inner darkness, not to resist it or fear it, but to befriend it and welcome the penetrating glimpses of light that give us hope and reason to go on so we can emerge stronger and with deepened faith.

Finding Our Way Through the Wilderness of Loss

December 16, 2018  at Siena Retreat Center - Racine, WI

A retreat day focusing on the significance of secondary losses.  There are myriad of losses we experience because of the loss.  These additional losses are deeply felt and grieved as profoundly as the original loss.  These losses are known as 'secondary losses' or 'loss of the assumptive world.'  Simply, how do we navigate and find our way through this wilderness of loss?

Honoring Grief... Intending to Heal

April 5 - 7 and May 3-5, 2019  at Nazareth Retreat Center, Grand Prairie, TX

May 14-15, 2019 at Benet Retreat House, Rock Island, IL

These are trainings for those who wish to companion the bereaved and/or are currently supporting the bereaved in various capacities.  The companioning philosophy serves as the foundation in offering any modality of support to the bereaved.  This model makes a distinction between other models of treating, fixing, curing, analyzing or resolving another's grief.  Instead companioning is "about being totally present to the mourner and even being a temporary guardian of the person's soul." (Wolfelt)
